Answers to the questions we get most. If yours isn't here, email us and a human will reply within one business day.
How do I borrow something?
Browse or search on the Home tab, open a listing, pick your dates, and send a borrow request. The owner gets a notification and can accept, decline, or propose different terms. Once accepted, chat in the app to arrange the handoff.
When am I charged?
Nothing is charged when you send a request. The rental total — plus any refundable security deposit the lender chose — is charged when the lender accepts. Deposits are released automatically when the rental completes.
How do I get paid for lending?
Earnings land in your in-app wallet. Connect a bank account under Profile → Wallet to withdraw, which is handled by Stripe.
What are circles?
A circle is a private group — a family, a street, a club, an event — where members share items with each other. Circle items are visible to members even when they aren't listed publicly. Event circles add a shared checklist so a group can see what still needs bringing, and who's bringing it. Read more on the Circles page.
Why does the app ask for my location?
To sort listings by how far away they are. You can decline and search by ZIP code instead. Background location is separate and optional — it powers arrival alerts during a pickup or return, and only during that window. See the Privacy Policy.
How do I turn notifications on?
Notifications are how you find out that someone asked to borrow your item, that a lender answered you, or that a handover is due. If you tapped “Don't Allow” when your phone first asked, the app cannot ask again — iPhone and Android only show that prompt once — so the switch lives in your phone's own Settings app.
In the app, go to Profile → Settings → Notification settings. It tells you whether notifications are currently on, walks you through the taps, and has a button that opens the right page in Settings for you.
On iPhone:
- Open the Settings app (the grey gear icon).
- Scroll down and tap Lendumine.
- Tap Notifications.
- Turn on Allow Notifications.
- Leave Lock Screen, Notification Centre and Banners ticked so you see requests as they arrive.
On Android:
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Apps, then Lendumine.
- Tap Notifications.
- Turn on All Lendumine notifications.
To turn them off again, follow the same steps and switch it off. You can also mute individual conversations without turning everything off — see below.
A chat or circle is too noisy
Open the “⋯” menu next to any message and choose Mute conversation. Your phone stays quiet for that thread; the messages still arrive in the app. Everything you have muted is listed under Profile → Settings → Notification settings, and you can unmute from there.
Someone is behaving badly. What do I do?
Open the “⋯” menu on their profile, their listing, or on the individual message, and choose Report. You can block them in the same step. The person you report is never told who reported them.
When you report a message we keep the message, its sender, the time, the circle it was in and the messages either side of it, so we can act on it even if it is deleted afterwards. Urgent safety reports are reviewed as quickly as we can; everything else within one business day. You can also email safety@lendumine.com. Full details are in the Community Guidelines.
If someone may be in immediate danger, contact 911 or your local emergency services. Reporting to Lendumine is not a substitute for emergency assistance.
How do I invite a friend who isn't on Lendumine yet?
Open the Friends screen — Profile → Friends. Your invitation code sits right under the search box, with an Invite button that opens your phone's share sheet. Tap the code itself to copy it if you would rather read it out or paste it somewhere.
If you search for a friend by name and nothing comes up, that usually means they have not joined yet — the same invite button appears there too. Profile → Invite friends does the same thing.
How do I delete my account?
Profile → Settings → Delete account. It happens immediately in the app; no email to us is needed. What is erased and what is kept is spelled out on that screen, on our account deletion page (which also explains how to ask by email if you no longer have the app), and in section 9 of the Privacy Policy.
An item came back damaged
Message the borrower first — most issues resolve directly. If they don't, email us within 7 days of the rental ending with photos and the rental details, and we will review the deposit.
I forgot my password
Tap “Forgot password?” on the login screen, just under the password field. Enter your phone number or username and we will text a six-digit code to the number on your account. Enter that code and choose a new password (at least 12 characters) and you are signed straight back in — there is no second login step.
You do not need an email address for this; the code goes to your phone. If you no longer have access to that number, email us and we will verify you another way.
