Privacy Policy
We built Lendumine on trust — so here is exactly what we collect, why we collect it, who sees it, and how to get rid of it.
Lendumine is a neighbourhood equipment-sharing app. We do not sell your personal information, we do not show ads, and we do not use advertising SDKs or track you across other apps. Besides our own first-party analytics (section 2), we use one outside product-analytics service, PostHog, described in section 7.
1. Who we are
Lendumine (“Lendumine,” “we,” “us”) operates the Lendumine mobile app and this website (together, the “Service”). If you have a question about this policy or your data, email hello@lendumine.com and we will respond within 30 days.
2. What we collect
Your account
- Name, username, profile photo, and bio — identify you to the people you lend to and borrow from. Shown publicly inside the app.
- Phone number — used to sign in and to verify that an account belongs to a real person. Stored privately and never shown on your public profile.
- Email address (optional) — account recovery. Stored privately.
- Home ZIP code — sets the default centre for nearby searches. Stored privately.
How you use the Service
- Content you create — listings, item requests, direct messages, rental chat, circle posts, and checklist pledges.
- Photos you upload — listing photos, accessory photos, checklist photos, profile photos, and circle cover images.
- Rental and payment records — dates, prices, deposits, and wallet ledger entries. Required to run the marketplace and keep accurate financial records.
- Push notification token — delivers borrow requests, messages, and reminders to your device.
- First-party product analytics — a random installation ID, app version and distribution, sessions, searches and result counts, and marketplace and Circle activity help us understand and improve Lendumine. Activity can be linked to your account when signed in. We do not collect an advertising identifier or use these records for cross-app advertising. Search text is limited and obvious email addresses and long numbers are redacted. Operational dashboards are restricted to authorised staff.
- Device diagnostics — basic crash and error information used to fix bugs. Not linked to any advertising identifier.
Location
- Precise location — shows equipment near you and measures distance to a listing. Collected only while you are using the app, and only with your permission.
- Background location (optional) — if you turn on arrival alerts, we detect when you reach an agreed pickup or return spot. See section 4.
Contacts (optional)
- Phone numbers from your address book — only if you open "Invite contacts" and allow access. The numbers are sent to our server once to check which belong to existing members, so we can show you friends who are already here. They are used only for that check: we do not store them, add them to anyone's account, or contact the people in your address book. Inviting someone who isn't a member happens through your own share sheet.
We never see your card number. Card details are entered directly into Stripe's payment sheet and stored by Stripe. We hold only a Stripe customer reference and the last four digits Stripe reports back.
3. How we use it
- To run the Service — publishing listings, matching borrowers to lenders, scheduling rentals, delivering messages, and sending notifications.
- To take and settle payments, hold refundable deposits, and pay lenders.
- To verify accounts and keep the marketplace safe — investigating reports, enforcing our community guidelines, and preventing fraud.
- To fix problems and improve the Service.
We do not use your data to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
4. Location, in detail
While using the app. Your location is used to sort and filter listings by distance. You can decline this permission and still use Lendumine by searching with a ZIP code instead.
In the background. Background location is optional and off unless you enable arrival alerts for a specific rental. When it is on, the app watches only for arrival at the pickup or return point you and the other person agreed to, and only during that rental's handoff window. It is not used to build a location history, it is never shared with advertisers, and it stops when the rental ends. You can turn it off at any time in iOS Settings → Lendumine → Location.
5. Reported messages
We do not read conversations nobody has reported. There is no automated scanning of the message stream, and no person at Lendumine browses your chats.
When you report a message, we keep a copy of it, who sent it, when it was sent, which circle or chat it was in, and the few messages either side of it, so a reviewer can understand what happened and still act on it if the original is deleted. That copy is retained with the report — see How long we keep it.
At the moment you submit a report, the app checks the reported text for a small set of high-risk indicators — credible threats, sexual exploitation, content suggesting a minor is involved, trafficking, weapons and drug sales, attempts to evade moderation, shared personal data, and pushes to move off the platform. That check runs on your device, only on the message being reported, and its only effect is where the report sits in our review queue. It never decides on its own that someone broke our rules. A person makes every enforcement decision.
The person you report is never told who reported them.
6. Photos and AI analysis
When you add a photo to a new listing, the app can suggest a title, category, condition, and price. To do this the photo is sent to Google's Gemini API, which returns a description; Google processes the image to generate that response. This happens only for photos you attach while creating or editing a listing — never to your profile photo, your chat images, or anything else. You can ignore the suggestions and type everything yourself.
7. Who we share data with
We share information only as needed to run the Service:
- Supabase — database, authentication, file storage, and hosting. Receives all app data.
- Stripe — processing payments, deposits, and payouts. Receives payment details, name, and email.
- Expo — delivering push notifications and app updates. Receives your push token and device type.
- Google (Gemini) — suggesting listing details. Receives only the listing photos you submit for analysis.
- Address search (OpenStreetMap search by komoot, or Google Places) — suggesting addresses and places as you type one. Receives the words you type in an address or place field and an approximate location so nearby results come first — never your name or account details.
- Twilio — sending the one-time code that verifies your number. Receives your phone number.
- Apple — delivering notifications to your device. Receives your push token.
- PostHog — product analytics, so we can see which parts of the app work and which don't. Receives the screens you open (by type, never which listing or chat), app opens, a few in-app actions such as posting a listing or sending a borrow request, your device model, OS, app version, and IP address, linked to a random account ID. It never receives your name, username, phone number, email, messages, or photos, and never records your screen.
- Other members — your profile, listings, ratings, and the messages you send are shared with members you interact with, so borrowing and lending can happen.
We also disclose information when legally required, or when necessary to protect someone's safety or investigate fraud or abuse. In a merger or sale of assets, information transfers with notice to you where required.
8. What other members can see
Your name, username, profile photo, bio, rating, and join date are visible to other Lendumine members. Your phone number, email address, ZIP code, exact home address, and payment details are not. A listing's precise address is revealed only to a borrower whose request you have accepted — everyone else sees an approximate distance.
Your items are a separate decision, and you make it twice. Every listing carries its own audience, which you set when you post it and can change at any time: only you, your friends, your friends and circles, or anyone on Lendumine. Only the last of those appears in Browse or on lendumine.com.
Separately, your profile does not list what you own. There is no setting that shows your items to the public on your profile page — the widest it goes is your accepted friends, and that is off unless you turn it on in Settings. Someone who opens your profile without that cannot see your items, or how many you have, even for items you have listed publicly.
9. How long we keep it
- While your account is open — for as long as you use the Service.
- After you delete your account — your profile, contact details, listings, photos, saved cards, and social connections are erased immediately. Records of completed rentals and the associated financial ledger are kept in anonymised form, with your name replaced by “Deleted user,” because they are also the other person's record of a transaction and we are required to keep accurate financial records. Messages you sent inside someone else's conversation remain in that conversation, attributed to “Deleted user.”
- Reports of abuse — kept for up to two years so repeat offenders can be identified. This includes the copy of the reported content and the surrounding messages captured with it, so a report stays reviewable after the original is deleted. Where the law requires us to preserve records for longer — for example in response to a lawful request, or where child-safety reporting obligations apply — we do.
10. Your choices and rights
- Delete your account at any time in the app: Profile → Settings → Delete account. No email to us is required.
- Edit or remove your profile details, photo, listings, and saved cards from inside the app.
- Turn off location, notifications, camera, or photo access in your device settings. Notifications have a walkthrough in the app under Profile → Settings → Notification settings, and on our Support page.
- Block or mute anyone, from the “⋯” menu beside any message. Blocked accounts are listed under Profile → Settings → Privacy & safety; muted conversations under Profile → Settings → Notification settings.
- Request a copy of your data, or ask us to correct or delete something, by emailing hello@lendumine.com.
Depending on where you live you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA — including the right to object to processing and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising a right. We honour these requests regardless of where you live.
11. Children's privacy
Lendumine is not intended for anyone under 18. We ask every member to confirm they are 18 or over before their account is created, and we record that answer. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a minor has created an account, email safety@lendumine.com and we will remove it.
12. Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to the production database is restricted, row-level security rules keep each member's private data readable only by them, and payment secrets are held in an encrypted vault the app itself never reads. No system is perfect; if we discover a breach affecting your data, we will notify you. You can read more on our Trust & Safety page.
13. Changes
If we change this policy in a way that materially affects you, we will update the date above and notify you in the app before the change takes effect.
